Florida Pool Energy Code

Posted by

** UPDATE: This code is currently NOT being enforced – Legislation has determined further investigation is warranted before this code will be enforced.**
This law applies to all new and existing residential pool and spa pumps/motors.  Essentially, the law requires that any pool FILTRATION pump/motor (not spa therapy, waterfall, water feature, etc. ) 1 HP and larger must now be TWO SPEED or VARIABLE SPEED when it is REPLACED.  Repairs to an existing pump/motor can still use the existing single speed pump/motor, but if it is being REPLACED these new requirements apply.

The underlying purpose of this new code is to decrease the energy used for sufficient filtration of pools and spas.  These energy savings significantly benefit the consumer.

The portion of the code that pertains to swimming pools can be found here:  http://www.floridapoolpro.com/industry/govtrelations/docs/Energy%20Law%20Code%20QA.pdf
